Exams Affected after Primary School is Forced to Close Following Burglary

Dringhouses Primary School had its windows smashed and offices ransacked during the break-in on 10th May. It is unknown as to what has been taken from the school at this time.

40 children at the school were supposed to sit their SATs exams today and have had to move to the local York High School to take their exams instea.d

Photos taken by the school displays the shocking extent of the damage caused with broken glass on the carpets, furniture broken and drawers ransacked.

Unfortunately, this school is just one of many which have fallen victim to vandalism.

Over the past few years, there has been an alarming number of reports from schools all across the UK being met with thousands of pounds worth of damage as a result of vandalism.

The BBC even revealed that over £1 Million was spent repairing vandalism in Scottish schools alone in 2015.

In 2014, we helped Briscoe Lane Academy in Newton Health secure their school after suffering persistent vandalism for over 12 years – with windows repeatedly being broken.

Recognising the need for an effective and long-term solution, whilst also wanting the school to look as aesthetically pleasing as possible for students, teachers and the local community – they found Crimeshield.

Crimeshield is a perforated mesh grille which fits over existing window frames and gives the impression of tinted glass from afar. With Crimeshield in place, windows can still be opened to allow for ventilation whilst protecting the window against blows, rocks and even air gun pellets. The end results speak for themselves.

Briscoe Lane Academy Trust Business Manager, Debbie Ollerenshaw, was more than pleased with the result:

“Our academy is in an area of high deprivation and has suffered from extensive vandalism in the past. We wanted a product that was as aesthetically pleasing as possible within budgetary constraints. We are very impressed with the end result; it is very subtle.”

With vandalism in schools appearing more and more in the news as of late, now’s the time for local authorities and educational institutions to consider investing in security measures to reduce or eliminate the cost of vandalism in the long term.
