Independent Regulation 14 Glazing Compliance Audits

Independent Regulation 14 Glazing Compliance Audits
We are now able to offer independent Regulation 14 glazing compliance audits to all public establishments, where the risk of accidents posed by inadequate safety glazing should be considered.
What is Regulation 14?
Regulation 14 was introduced on the 1st of January 1996 and is part of The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992.
Regulation 14 imposes a duty of care on those responsible for Health and Safety to ensure that risk assessments of the glazing are regularly carried out to check that glazing in 'critical locations' is of sufficient safety standard. Where glazing is deemed to create a risk of injury to the building users or visitors then appropriate action should be taken to upgrade the glazing to reduce the risk of accidents.
What is a Critical Location?
The recommendations for Critical Locations are recognised from BS6262 Part 4 as:
Risk Code 1 - Panels in doors and panels next to doors (within 300mm) up to 1500mm from finished floor level.
Risk Code 2 - Low level panels within 800mm from finished floor level.
Risk Code 3 - Glazing in Balustrades
Risk Code 4 - Glazing in Wet Areas, which can be any glazing forming part of a bath or shower screen, or located adjacent to, or surrounding a bath, swimming pool, or other associated wet area constitutes a potential danger because of the possibility of a slip accident.
Risk Code 5 - Areas of Special Risk, which covers all those parts where the planned activity generates a special risk, for example indoor sports facilities, all glazing should conform to the requirements of critical locations. In these situations a higher classification requirement should be considered and if additional safeguards such as protection screens or manifestation is required.
Please note: Risk Code 1 is no more severe than Risk Code 5
For further information about Regulation 14 please read Regulation 14 Compliance Guide.
How Do I Check Compliance with Regulation 14?
In order to ensure the glazing in your establishment is compliant with Regulation 14, you need to initiate a risk assessment of your glazing to ascertain whether or not there is a risk of injury. (Recommendations can be found in BS6262 Part 4).
Whilst this can be carried out internally by trained Health and Safety personnel, it may be of benefit to consult with independent experts who may be able to best advise as to your compliance. As such, if an Independent Glazing Compliance Audit would be of interest you can commission your very own audit with Window Security Solutions. Our audits are carried out by independent assessors, who have in excess of 20 years experience in glazing compliance and safety window film installation.

What Can I Expect From an Independent Glazing Compliance Audit?
Within the glazing compliance audit, your assessor will determine the type of glass and its current safety rating within critical locations. Following the assessors appraisal of all the glazing within your establishment a comprehensive report will be provided with full clarification of the condition of the glazing throughout your establishment classification of any risks that exist, and recommendations of any glazing upgrades that may be required.
